New Zealand batted well to score 362 for the loss of six wickets from their 50 overs. South Africa has to achieve the biggest chase of the tournament if they have to make it to the finals and play India on Sunday. The onus of scoring quick runs was on Ryan Rickelton who had already scored a century in the first match of the tournament.

Rickelton was batting well on 17 runs having hit four boundaries when he was dismissed. The incident happened in the fifth ball of the fifth over with Matt Henry bowling a slower ball. The batter played the shot early only to see Michael Bracewell take an easy catch to give the Kiwis huge wicket.

South Africa had reached 94/1 after 17 overs with Temba Bavuma batting with Rassie van der Dussen. The pair had put on 74 runs for the second wicket in 73 balls as both the Proteas batters have been trying to up the run-rate. Earlier in the day, the Kiwis opted to bat first after winning the toss.

Twin centuries help New Zealand reach massive total on the board

Will Young was the first Kiwi batter out after scoring 21 runs when he was caught by Aiden Markram off Lungi Ngidi. The second wicket pair of Rachin Ravindra and former skipper Kane Williamson then joined forces to add 164 runs. Ravindra scored his fifth ODI ton before falling for 108 runs.

Kane Williamson scored the second century of the innings as he displayed great innovation with the bat. Williamson hit 102 off 94 balls with 10 fours and two sixes before offering a simple catch to Ngidi and given Wiaan Mulder his first wicket. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips upped the scoring rate with a key stand of 57 runs.

That stand for the fifth wicket came off five overs as Mitchell was out for 49 runs. Glenn Phillips was not out on 49 off 27 balls with six boundaries and a six. For South Africa, the best bowler was Lungi Ngidi who picked 3/72 from his 10 overs. Kagiso Rabada picked two wickets while Mulder got just one scalp for his side.
