Addressing that tough call, England Women's skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt admitted that leaving out a player who has been an important part of the squad for so long is a hard pill to swallow. At the same time, she pointed out that the decision reflects the depth and bench strength England currently have.

Speaking to the PA news agency, Sciver-Brunt said: "Being left out is never nice and for someone who has been a mainstay of our side for a really long time it probably has another level to it.”

She further explained: "It's really tough when these sort of things happen but that is where we want to be as an England side, having huge decisions to make every time you select a squad or an XI. I think in a roundabout way it's a positive for where we are as a group and a squad. The more that can happen, the better our team will be."

Meanwhile, Sciver-Brunt also shared a major update on her own bowling, which could be a huge boost for the team ahead of the World Cup. She revealed that she has been bowling in practice and is eager to take on more responsibility with the ball. In recent times, due to an Achilles issue, she had not bowled at all.

At the launch of the Sage Small Business XI competition, she said: "I've been bowling in practice and the body is feeling really good. That is the plan, to bowl a few overs out there. Contributing in every facet is something I love to do and I'll be really happy to contribute with the ball again.”
