The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the hosts for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026: India and Sri Lanka. The eight countries that advanced to the Super 8 round of the T20 World Cup this year will automatically be invited to the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. Moreover, Sri Lanka, the co-host of the ICC event, won a berth in the competition despite not making it to the Super 8s in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Even though Pakistan and New Zealand failed to qualify for Super 8 in this season, they booked a seat in the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup based on their ICC T20I rankings. Twelve teams in all will be granted direct access to the T20 World Cup 2026.
The T20 World Cup 2024's eight Super 8 teams—India, England, Bangladesh, West Indies, Australia, South Africa, USA, and Afghanistan—are included in this. Furthermore, Sri Lanka qualified since they are the co-host. The three teams to be ranked higher in the ICC T20I standings as of June 30, 2024, will occupy the remaining three berths. The upcoming edition will also be in the same format and will include 20 teams.
India and Australia to play on June 24 in T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 clash
The world is getting ready to witness the rivals, India and Australia, yet again on the big platform of ICC events. India is set to play against the mighty Australians in the Super 8 match since both are in the same group. While India, Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh are in Group 1; South Africa, West Indies, USA, and England are in Group 2.
The league stages were quite interesting as a lot of low-scoring thrillers happened. However, viewers will hope for some fun and high-scoring matches in the upcoming segment. The chances of this are bleak since the matches will be held in the West Indies, which is famous for its slow pitches and is friendly to spinners. Hence, the audience might not get to 200+ scores, but the fun factor in all the games will remain the same throughout the tournament.
