Veteran Indian batter KL Rahul has a chance to write his name in history books in the upcoming Delhi Capitals vs Gujarat Titans (DC vs GT) IPL 2025 game. Rahul will play his 237th game in the T20I format and is just 33 runs away from scoring 8000 runs in the T20 format. Rahul currently has 7967 runs from 223 innings and will walk into Arun Jaitley Stadium to write his name in the history books.

If Rahul scores the needed 33 runs, then he will become the fastest Indian batter to reach 8000 runs in the T20 format. Virat Kohli reached the mark in the 243rd innings in the 2019 season for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Kolkata Knight Riders. Kohli took 243 innings to reach the mark of 8000 T20 runs.

For the record, Chris Gayle holds the record for the fastest batter to reach the mark. The game on Sunday will be Rahul’s 143rd in IPL and the batter has scored 5064 runs with the bat with four centuries and forty fifties. The right-handed batter has played 10 matches this year, scoring 381 runs with three fifties and a strike rate of 142 and an average of 47.

Make or break game for Delhi Capitals

Arun Jaitley Stadium is set to witness hosts Delhi Capitals play their final home game of the season. Delhi began the season well, having stormed to the top spot in the points table with four successive wins. Their charge was halted by the Mumbai Indians and since then DC have been showing inconsistent form in the IPL 2025 season.

Veteran Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman could make his way into the playing XI for the match on Sunday. Mitchell Starc has already pulled out of the final few games of the season to get in shape for the WTC finals. KL Rahul too could be in line for promotion as DC are reportedly set to push Rahul up the order to open the batting.

If Delhi loses this game, then their playoff hopes take a massive dent, considering they play two more playoff hopefuls next. After this game, DC will take on the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium and end their group phase fixtures with the game against the Punjab Kings.
