Former Australian skipper Michael Clarke has thrown his support behind Rohit Sharma, who has made a slow start in the IPL 2025 season. In the four games that Rohit has played this year, he has been able to score just 38 runs with the bat. The 37-year-old’s highest was his 17 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the last game.
Mumbai Indians (MI), who are ninth in the table, will take on unbeaten Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. One of the battles that the fans will be hoping to see is Rohit Sharma take on Mitchell Starc on Sunday. Twice this season, Rohit has been dismissed by left-arm pacers, which has been a huge weakness for the batter over the years.
Michael Clarke was quoted by PTI as saying, “I think Rohit's an absolute superstar. It's just a matter of time before he makes a hundred. I think it's going to take one decent innings. It might be a 40; it might be a 60. He'll get momentum and then, you know, you'll see the best of Rohit Sharma. I wouldn't be too concerned about his form.”

The 2015 World Cup winner also praised the former MI skipper and said, “He'll get momentum and then, you know, you'll see the best of Rohit Sharma. I wouldn't be too concerned about his form. We all have high expectations of the great players because they've been so successful over a long period of time that, yeah, you're allowed to miss out on a couple of games. But class is permanent.”
With just one win from five games, Mumbai Indians need to win against Delhi to keep their hopes alive. So far both MI and Chennai Super Kings have had disappointing campaigns and need to string in key wins to keep their playoff hopes alive. MI have lost their last two games by 12 runs to Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Delhi Capitals are coming into the encounter on the back of their amazing win against Bengaluru. KL Rahul, who has a great record against Mumbai Indians, scored 93 not out with the bat to help his side beat RCB by six wickets. Delhi also have bowlers in good wicket-taking form, with the likes of Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav doing well so far with the ball this season.
