Delhi Capitals batter Jake Fraser-McGurk has revealed Ricky Ponting's game-changing advice after DC won against the Rajasthan Royals on May 7 at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Notably, the 22-year-old batter piled up an amazing total of 50 runs from just 20 balls, featuring seven fours and three sixes with a solid strike rate of 250. His excellent opening stand with Abhishek Porel defeated the Sanju Samson-led RR side.
However, Fraser-McGurk has revealed how former Aussie skipper and current DC coach Ricky Ponting has helped him with hitting shots during the play. The 22-year-old cricketer also revealed a few pieces of advice he received from Ponting, which gave him great confidence.
"What he's said to me that's really stuck with me. [Ponting said] I hit the ball a lot further when I swing at 80 per cent instead of 100 per cent. 'You just have to find the middle and it'll go for six'. I was like, 'OK that's good', because when I swing harder my head moves. I did look at the footage of all the games I've been playing apart from the IPL and he's right, when I swing quite hard, my head is moving as I train on the ball," Fraser-McGurk told the Willow Talk podcast.
I wasn't in this position to feel like I've earned that yet: Jake Fraser-McGurk
The stylish right-handed batter also opened up about the T20 World Cup 2024 snub despite being in the most important form in the current IPL. The Victoria-born cricketer accepted that he didn't have enough experience to be in the upcoming marquee event and talked about how the World Cup is different from the IPL. However, the great batter was ecstatic to be a part of IPL 2024.
"It didn't really bother me a hell of a lot because I wasn't in this position to feel like I've earned that yet. World Cup cricket is a lot different to IPL cricket. To be here [in India] now, I don't even really have the words for it. I don't really understand how it's happened so quick," he added further.
