Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar spoke about the chances of a bilateral series between India and Pakistan in the future. It has been years since the arch-rivals haven't played in a bilateral series in any format, mostly due to the internal relations between the countries. Shedding light on this, Gavaskar said that until there is peace at the borders, there shouldn't be any talks about a bilateral series.
"By frankly having peace at the borders... (How can India and Pakistan play a bilateral series?) It’s very simple. If there's peace at the borders, then I think both governments will certainly say, 'Look, okay, we've had no incidents, nothing at all. So let's at least start talking. I'm pretty certain there will be some back-channel connections going on. But you want to see what's happening both on the ground and off the ground because of the fact that there are incursions we hear about. That’s the reason why the Indian government is saying, 'Look, maybe until all that stops, we should not even look at having or talking about anything," said Sunil Gavaskar on the show Sports Central.
India defeated Pakistan in the second game of the Champions Trophy 2025 by six wickets. The win helped them advance to the semi-finals and knock out the Men in Green from the tournament.
Team India to play against New Zealand in final game of group stage on March 2
The Indian team will play their final group stage game on March 2, after a break of almost two weeks. This game will decide the positions of the teams based on their NRR. India would be looking to enter the semi-finals unbeaten, as they have in the last two ICC events.
Moreover, New Zealand's performance has been quite outstanding in both the games against Pakistan and Bangladesh. Hence, it would be interesting to see the performance of the teams in the upcoming clash.
