Star England batter Ben Duckett came up with a big statement just before the third ODI against India in the ongoing three-match series. He claimed that the Three Lions will not bother if they lose an ongoing three-match series to India by a margin of 0-3. Instead of that, they will be more pleased if they beat India in the final of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

However, Duckett’s words didn’t go well with the former England skipper Kevin Pietersen. The former batter slammed the English opener for his words before the final fixture of the ODI series between India and England.

"Those words should not have been said" - Kevin Pietersen

Pietersen came up with a post on his official X handle (formerly Twitter), in which he used harsh words to criticize Ben Duckett.

“Goodness me, it’s pretty poor that Duckett would say that he doesn’t care if England lose today and lose 3-0 to India. Context is important when reading quotes, but those words should NOT have been said! NEVER!” wrote Pietersen in his X post.

Here’s a look at Kevin Pietersen’s X post:

Speaking of the action of the ongoing three-match series between India and England, both teams are currently taking on each other in the third and last ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

England won the toss and asked India to bat first; batting first, the hosts had scored 177 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 26.3 overs at the time of filling this, with vice=captain and opener Shubman Gill there in the middle, alongside the number four batter Shreyas Iyer. Gill has scored 92 runs off just 83 balls, with 13 fours and two sixes while Iyer has aggregated 24 runs off 19 balls, with two fours and a six.

Earlier in the innings, the former skipper and the modern-day batting great scored a half-century after a long time, hitting 52 runs off 55 runs, with seven fours and a six following skipper Rohit Sharma’s just 1 run off 2 balls.

Mark Wood and Adil Rashid have scalped a wicket each for the tourists in the first innings so far.
