For the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad where Vijaykumar Vyshak got a maiden call-up from the selectors. He was quite happy and ecstatic for the opportunity given to him. An overseas tour is something that wasn't in his mind, but it was like a 'dream come true' moment for the player. He played brilliantly in 2024 for RCB, as he claimed 13 wickets in 11 games.
"I am speechless. An India call-up is what every cricketer aspires for. It's a dream come true. For a long time, people called me fat and it never really bothered me. A few years ago, I looked at myself in the mirror and I didn't see a cricketer. What I saw was an overweight youngster, who was struggling with his cricket. That day, I told myself, fitness is everything, work on it," said Vijaykumar Vyshak.
Once again, the Board sidelined Ruturaj Gaikwad from the squad. They sent him as India A's captain to Australia but didn't keep him in the BGT squad, which was upsetting. Moreover, because of the red-ball matches, he had to miss the T20I series since the dates were clashing.
India's squad for South Africa series announced
Suryakumar Yadav is set for an overseas tour as captain in November 2024 against the mighty South Africans. The Indian team will travel to South Africa to play a 4-match T20I series. However, Gautam Gambhir will not be going with the young guns since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is down the corner, and higher priority is given to the red-ball series. As per reports, VVS Laxman will be travelling with the coach as their stand-in coach.
India's squad: Suryakumar Yadav (C),Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (WK), Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ramandeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Avesh Khan, Yash Dayal.
