IPL: Top run-scorers over the last 5 years in IPL

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the best T20 leagues in the world, and players from all over the world take part in it. Some of the former great players, such as Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn, Doug Bollinger, and many more, were once a part of this league. Being a bowler in the IPL is the toughest job possible because the tournament has been favoring the batters for a long time now. There are very good bowlers who have held their calm and outplayed the best batters in the league, which is a win-win situation. 

If we talk about the top run-scorers in the league, one prominent name that comes to mind is Virat Kohli, who is the highest run-scorer of the tournament. However, it wasn't the case earlier when Suresh Raina was playing for CSK. Until 2021, Raina was the leading run-scorer of IPL, and the fun fact is that he hadn't ever won an Orange cap in the history of the tournament. It was consistent scoring in all the seasons that helped him achieve this accolade. Speaking about the previous year, Kohli was in terrific form and was the IPL 2024 Orange Cap winner. 

Who were the top run-scorers in IPL 2024?

1. Virat Kohli

RCB's opener and former captain Virat Kohli was the top run-scorer of IPL 2024 with 741 runs in 15 matches. He was the backbone of the team and the main reason behind RCB's qualification to the play-offs. He played with an average of 61.75, which is just sheer brilliance. At the age of 35, the player did his best in the shortest format and scored the most runs in the IPL 2024.

2. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 583 runs in 14 games. He played with an average of 53. He became the first CSK captain to score more than 500 runs in the IPL, setting an example for the others. 

3. Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag was a surprise entry in the top-scorers list. Rajasthan Royals player was simply outstanding in the IPL 2024, as he went on to score 567 runs in 14 games. This was the first time he entered the list, shutting the trollers down. He played at an average of 56.70. 

4. Travis Head

Sunrisers Hyderabad had the destructive opening pair in the form of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who wreaked havoc on the bowlers throughout the tournament. Head was the fourth-highest run-scorer with 533 runs in 12 games and batted with an average of 48.45. 

5. Sai Sudharsan

Gujarat Titan's opener, Sai Sudharsan, scored 527 runs in 12 games, with an average of 47.91, and was just outstanding throughout the season. He formed solid partnerships with Shubman Gill to set great targets. However, GT failed to qualify for the playoffs.
