But what attracted the headlines was the moment in the second innings when the Mumbai Indians were chasing the target of 204 runs. It was when the star MI batter Tilak Varma went out of the field as he was announced ‘retired out’ during MI’s run-chase.

With that said, here we’ll have a look at the reason why Tilak Varma went out of the field during the second innings.

Here’s the reason behind Tilak Varma getting retired out

The moment came on the fifth ball of the 19th over in the second innings when Tilak Varma was batting at the score of 25 runs off 23 balls, with only two fours and a ‘not so impressive’ strike rate of 108.69. Meanwhile, skipper Hardik Pandya decided to announce Tilak Varma as ‘retired out’ as he was not striking hard to help MI chase the target. With this, Tilak Varma also became only the fourth batter to get retired out in the history of IPL.

However, this move didn’t work for MI and they eventually lost the game by 12 runs, getting restricted to the score of 191 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the entire 20 overs. Earlier in the innings, star batter Suryakumar Yadav 67 runs off 43 balls, with nine fours and a six followed by Naman Dhir’s 46 runs off 24 balls, with 4 fours and three sixes.

Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, and Digvesh Rathi have scalped a wicket each for LSG in the second innings to restrict the Mumbai Indians 13 runs before the target and won the game by 12 runs.
