A 36-ball 💯 😮
Days after smashing the fastest 100 by an Indian in T20s against Tripura, Gujarat's Urvil Patel was at it again, hitting a 36-ball century against Uttarakhand 🔥
The 26-year-old is a promising wicketkeeper and an attacking batter. Urvil scored the fastest T20 ton by an Indian when he got to the triple figure mark in just balls. That feat came against Tripura in November last year. Tripura had batted first and scored 155 on the board from their 20 overs.
Gujarat opened with former KKR player Aarya Desai and Urvil as the pair added 150 for the opening wicket in just 53 balls. Urvil reached his fifty off just 15 balls and took 13 more balls to reach his century. With this ton, the right-handed batter also broke Rishabh Pant’s six-year-old record of a 32-ball ton in T20 cricket. The 26-year-old was not out on 113 off 35 balls with seven boundaries and 12 sixes.
Who is Urvil Patel? CSK's latest surprise weapon
Born on 17th October, 1998, young wicketkeeper and batter Urvil Patel is one of the next generation talents. It is to be noted that Urvil made his domestic debut for Baroda, where he spent a few years before his move to Gujarat for more chances. His T20 debut came for Baroda, where Urvil scored 50 off 28 balls with seven fours and two sixes. Incidentally, current CSK player Deepak Hooda was the captain of Baroda when Urvil Patel made his debut.
A month later, the youngster made his List A debut for Baroda against Karnataka, where he scored an unbeaten 10 as Baroda lost by 85 runs. The young first made his debut for Gujarat in the first-class format last year against Tamil Nadu and earned the man of the match for his wicket-keeping skills, which yielded five catches. With the bat, Urvil had a quiet game, scoring just 14 runs in two which also included a duck in the first innings.
Has Urvil Patel played in the IPL before?
Gujarat Titans paid INR 20 lakh to sign the player in the 2023 IPL Auctions, but didn’t give Urvil a chance to play in the season. With Chennai snapping up the youngster, there is a chance that he could make his debut in one of the final three games of the season. The youngster had also trialled with the Mumbai Indians previously but wasn't picked by the five-time champions.
What is the last date to sign a replacement player?
As per the official rules constituted by IPL, any team can sign a replacement player before the 12th game of the season. If CSK has to make the deal official, they have to sign the player before they play Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday, which is their 12th game of the season.
