Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is all set to host the huge clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday. Ahead of the game, fans are looking at the skies with bated breath hoping that rains stay away. Bengaluru has been witnessing massive rains for the last few days and there is a good chance that the game could witness some interruption.
For RCB, the game holds importance for two huge reasons, firstly a win on Saturday will put them closer to the playoffs. Secondly, a potential win over CSK also will be their second of the season and their third in succession. RCB had beaten CSK by 18 runs at the same venue last season and then won away from home match earlier in the season by 50 runs.
Chennai Super Kings, has nothing but pride to play for in the final four games of the season. MS Dhoni and his side are already of the tournament post their four-wicket loss to Punjab Kings at home in their previous encounter. The encounter on Saturday will be a huge chance for CSK to start planning for the next season and also make their upwards in the points table.
How does washout affect RCB's playoff chances?
If the game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings is indeed washed out, then both sides get a point each. While it doesn’t do much to CSK’s standings, RCB could face a tricky final few games of IPL 2025. One point on Saturday will mean that RCB heads the table with 15 points from 11 games.
The rained out game though could have massive impact on their final standings ahead of the playoffs. In the four games that RCB has played at home this season they have managed to conjure just one win. Their final four games will feature three home fixtures. After their game vs CSK, RCB will play Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders in their final two home fixtures.
Failure to win both considering their home form this season and in the worst case scenario where RCB loses their final away game to Lucknow, they could be stuck on 15 points. This gives a chance for Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans to stake their claim to the top two spots in the table. In case, RCB suffers a slump in form then Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals will come into the equation also Lucknow Super Giants have an outside chance to pip Bengaluru for a spot in the playoffs.
