Rajasthan Royals (RR) have given Vaibhav Suryavanshi his first game in the Indian Premier League (IPL). RR are taking on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a key encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Sanju Samson expectedly missed the game after injuring himself while batting against Delhi Capitals.
Riyan Parag was back in the saddle as the captain of RR for the game, having led earlier in the season. It was Rishabh Pant who won the toss and surprisingly chose to bat first. LSG just made one change to their side as Prince Yadav came in for Akash Deep, who has been struggling for form with the ball.
Both teams head into the game on the back of losses in their previous encounters. Rajasthan Royals played out a thrilling tie against Delhi Capitals and the match went into a super over. KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs then guided DC to an easy win to break RR’s hearts. Lucknow lost to Chennai Super Kings in their last game by five wickets to halt their winning run.
Sanju Samson loss for Rajasthan Royals
30-year-old Sanju Samson will be a huge loss for Rajasthan Royals as they head into the second half of the season. Samson is not only an amazing wicketkeeper and a shrewd captain but also a very dangerous batter. The onus of scoring runs will fall on Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been going through indifferent form recently.
Speaking to the broadcasters after the loss to DC, Samson was asked to speak about his injury. Rajasthan’s skipper had said, “It feels alright; I was just not ready to come back and bat here. We'll observe it tomorrow and see how it is." According to a few reports which did the rounds on Friday, it was revealed that Samson could miss the rest of the campaign.
Speaking of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, it is a huge chance for the youngster to show the world his talents with the bat. The young batter is a naturally attacking player with the ability to play well against the pacers as well as the spinners. It will be a huge moment for Suryavanshi as he walks onto the field to become the youngest player in IPL history.
