Former Chennai Super Kings skipper and legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni is likely to take on the charge as CSK captain once again and now, in the team’s next game against the Delhi Capitals (DC). This possibility has occurred after the regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad sustained an injury on his right forearm during the previous game against the Rajasthan Royals.
Since then, Gaikwad hasn’t been practising for CSK in the nets due to the intensity of his injury; meanwhile, the CSK batting coach Michael Hussey cleared that the management will take a call after seeing a development in Gaikwad’s recovery.
“Yeah, we’re hoping he’s going to try and have a bat today for training. And, yeah, it’s still a little bit sore, but it’s improving every day. So, we’re very hopeful, very confident that he’ll be fine for tomorrow (Saturday),” said Hussey ahead of CSK’s game against Delhi Capitals.
Furthermore, Hussey also spoke about the potential replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad as CSK skipper for the next game against DC at the home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. He hinted about the possibility of MS Dhoni leading the side; however, the former Aussie Southpaw didn’t mention Dhoni’s name categorically in his statement.
“I’m not sure. I don’t think we’ve thought about that too much. Well, I haven’t thought about it too much. I’m sure (Stephen) Fleming and Rutu (Ruturaj) have thought about that,” he said.
“But we’ve got some young guy coming through. He’s behind the stumps. Maybe he can do a good job. I’m not sure. He’s got a bit of experience in the role, so maybe he could do it. But I’m not exactly sure, to be honest,” he added later while referring to Dhoni without mentioning his name.
Notably, CSK are coming off two consecutive defeats in their last two games against RCB and RR, respectively following a 4-wicket win against MI in their campaign opener.
