IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans outmuscle Mumbai Indians with power-packed all-round performance in 9th game

With this win against MI, Gujarat Titans have now moved to the third spot in the tournament’s points table, with two points to their name. They are now behind the table toppers RCB and 'number two' LSG.

Gujarat Titans defeated Mumbai Indians by 36 runs to register the first win of their campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). The game was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday. The visiting skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and asked GT to bat first.

Batting first, Shubman Gill’s men posted a big total of 196 runs for losing 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Star in-form opener Sai Sudharsan played a crucial half-century knock, scoring 63 runs off 41 balls, with 4 fours and two sixes, alongside skipper Gill’s 38 runs off 27 balls, with 4 fours and a six.

Following Gill and Sudharsan, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler also scored 39 runs off just 24 balls, with five fours and a six. MI skipper and star all-rounder Hardik Pandya scalped 2 wickets at 29 runs in his four overs. Besides Pandya, all other MI bowlers claimed a wicket each except for Mitchell Santner.

Titans’ bowlers outmuscle star-studded MI batting attack

While chasing the target, the visitors didn’t get the expected start as GT pacer Mohammed Siraj dismissed MI’s former skipper and batting stalwart Rohit Sharma in the first over. In the fifth over, Siraj dismissed the second opener Ryan Rickleton in the same manner.

Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma were the only ones who played the resilient knocks of 48 and 39 runs for MI amidst a dismal performance from the rest of the star-studded batting lineup.

Eventually, Mumbai Indians were restricted to the score of 160 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the entire 20 overs and Gujarat Titans won the game by 36 runs.

Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishan scalped 2 wickets each for Gujarat Titans in the second innings, alongside a wicket each bagged by Kagiso Rabada and Sai Kishore.

With this win against MI, Gujarat Titans have now moved to the third spot in the tournament’s points table, with two points to their name. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have slipped to the ninth spot, becoming the second team to face two successive  defeats after Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing IPL 2025.
