After suspending the Indian Premier League 2025 midway due to the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking for a venue to host the remainder of the tournament. There have already been a lot of speculations and assumptions in the Indian cricketing circuit that the tournament might be shifted to Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
But there has been another interesting development in the same line of events, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has offered the BCCI to host the IPL 2025 in England. England’s offer is reported to be conveyed to BCCI on Friday, May 9.
ECB keen to host the IPL 2025: Reports
A report in the renowned English Cricket Magazine understands that the “contact (from ECB) has been made with the BCCI, after the 10-team tournament was suspended for a week after an increase in military tensions between India and Pakistan.”
Earlier in the day, the former England skipper and now the cricket commentator, Michael Vaughan, also came up with a suggestion to BCCI that England would be the right place to host the remainder of the IPL 2025. He also justified it with the fact that some of the Indian Test players might prolong their stay in England to prepare for the upcoming five-match Test series against the hosts.
“I wonder if it’s possible to finish the IPL in the UK. We have all the venues, and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series. Just a thought?” wrote Vaughan in his X post before reports of ECB’s contact with BCCI surfaced in the media.
Here’s a look at Michael Vaughan’s X post.
Notably, a total of 16 matches are remaining to be played in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League. It includes 12 league matches, alongside three playoff games, followed by the summit clash of the tournament. So, BCCI will be eyeing to schedule the tournament for two weeks in the alternate venue they opt to host the tournament.
