The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League is currently suspended; the decision was taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) due to the rising cross-border conflicts between India and Pakistan. However, the board is looking forward and hoping to resume the tournament as soon as possible after the declaration of a ceasefire between the two nuclear foes.

Amidst the reports tournament’s resumption after a few days of suspension, the return of foreign players to India is still under the clouds of uncertainty. In the same line of events, the Australian players are among those foreign players who are in a conundrum over the decision to return to India on IPL 2025’s resumption.

Notably, the SRH skipper Pat Cummins, his teammate Travis Head, and CSK’s Nathan Ellis are the Aussie stars who might not return as their teams have already been eliminated from the tournament.

In the same vein, Cricket Australia has also clarified its stance on BCCI’s decision to suspend the tournament midway amidst the cross-border Indo-Pak conflicts. The board took this decision to ensure the safety and security of the players in this chaos.

Cricket Australia CEO extends support to BCCI’s decision

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cricket Australia, Todd Greenberg, came up with an official statement, in which he extended his cooperation to the concerned authorities, including the BCCI and CA.

“The safety and welfare of our players and staff is always a core priority and we support today’s decision by the BCCI, we continue to work closely with the Australian Government, PCB and BCCI and are maintaining regular communication with players and support staff in both India and Pakistan,” Greenberg was quoted as saying by Times Now.

Returning to BCCI’s plans to resume the tournament and end the suspension, the Board has shortlisted three southern cities: Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai, to host the remainder of the tournament.
