The hosts’ skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and asked visitors SRH to bat first; batting first, SRH’s opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma destroyed and dismantled the bowling attack of RCB. The duo stitched a swashbuckling opening partnership of 108 runs in just 8.1 overs before Sharma was dismissed at the individual score of 34 runs off 22 balls, with 2 fours and 2 sixes.

Later, Travis Head continued the onslaught and smashed 102 runs off just 41 balls, with 9 fours and 8 sixes. It also happened to be the fourth fastest century in the history of the Indian Premier Leagues. Besides these two, Heinrich Klaasen also smashed 67 runs off just 31 balls followed by 32 and 37 runs, scored by Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad respectively.

‘So close yet so far’ run-chase for RCB

On the back of these knocks, Hyderabad posted an all-time highest team total of IPL, with 287 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Reece Topley and Lockie Ferguson picked 1 and 2 wickets for RCB, respectively.

While chasing the target, RCB also showed a bit of chasing intent as the opening pair of former skipper Virat Kohli and current skipper Faf du Plessis provided a quick start of 80 runs in just 6.2 overs before the former was dismissed at the personal score of 42 runs off just 20 balls, with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Du Plessis played a quick knock of 62 runs off just 28 balls, with 7 fours and 4 sixes.

Later around the end of RCB’s run-chase, it was the ‘ageing’ Dinesh Karthik who took centre stage for his side, scoring 83 runs off just 35 balls, with 5 fours and 7 sixes. However, his efforts couldn’t help RCB to cross the line as they fell 26 runs to the target and lost the match by 25 runs. Star SRH batter Travis Head won the ‘Player of the Match award for his swashbuckling century in SRH’s favour.
