Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clashed in Match 57 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday (May 8). LSG were annihilated by SRH as the home team cruised to an emphatic nine-wicket victory.

Opting to bat first, LSG got off to a sluggish start and they lost some quick wickets. However, a brilliant rescue innings by Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran took them to a respectable score of 165. The target was never a threat to a formidable batting unit of SRH and their openers made it look easy.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma made a mockery of the LSG bowlers and completed proceedings in just 9.4 overs. With this huge win, Pat Cummins and Co. moved up to third in the points table. On the other hand, LSG are sixth in the table with their sixth defeat of the tournament.

Here are the 5 worst performances from SRH vs LSG, Match 57:

5. KL Rahul - 33 runs off 29 balls

The LSG skipper has so far scored 460 runs in 12 innings, but that comes at a concerning strike rate of 136.09. This is not the first time that KL Rahul has come under fire for his slow knock and he has made no progress in the match against SRH to improve his stats.

The opening batter completely struggled to get going and was eventually dismissed for 33 off 29 balls in the 10th over. His sluggish innings saw LSG having poor powerplay and hampered the team from reaching a competitive total.

4. Quinton de Kock – 2 runs of 5 balls

Quinton de Kock returned to the XI after missing a few matches. The Proteas batter hasn't had the best start to the campaign and he still seems to be in the worst patch. He was expected to provide a strong powerplay with skipper KL Rahul, who also struggled to find runs.

He was dismissed in the second over of the innings as he failed to clear the boundary rope against SRH pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. LSG suffered an early setback as de Kock returned to the pavilion making just two runs off five balls.

3. T Natarajan – 0/50 in four overs

Natarajan has been one of the best bowlers of the season with 15 wickets in nine innings. However, the left-arm pacer had a forgettable outing against LSG. Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran were looking for a good over to score some valuable runs to post a safe total.

The Tamil Nadu pacer aided them by conceding 15 runs in the 14th over. Pat Cummins trusted him to deliver the penultimate 19th over, but he gave away another 15 runs to finish with a worst figure of 50/0 in four overs. His expensive spell resulted in LSG going past 160.

2. Yash Thakur – 0/47 in 2.4 overs

Defending a modest total against a formidable batting unit, Krishnappa Gowtham delivered a tidy opening over for LSG. But in the next over, Yash Thakur spoiled everything by conceding 17 runs, including four boundaries. He returned to bowl in the final over of the Powerplay and conceded 20 runs, helping SRH reach 107 in just six overs.

SRH crossed the target of 166 in just 9.4 overs with Abhishek Sharma launching a maximum against Thakur. The right-arm pacer thus conceded a total of 47 runs in 2.4 overs (17.60 economy).

1. Naveen-ul-Haq – 0/37 in two overs

The Afghanistan pacer was taken to the cleaners by Australian big-hitter Travis Head. Naveen was slammed for four fours and a six in the fifth over to give away a total of 21 runs in his first over of the innings. His second over went for 14 runs, including two boundaries, and thus the right-arm pacer finished with a figure of 0/37 in just two overs (18.50 economy).
