IPL 2024: Sanju Samson fined 30% match fee over argument with umpires after controversial dismissal in clash vs DC

Sanju Samson has been fined 30% of his match fees for his dissent against the third umpire's judgement after being ruled out (caught) in the 56th match of the ongoing 17th edition of the Indian Premier League.

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson has been fined 30% of his match fees after he indulged in heated arguments with on-field umpires during the game against the Delhi Capitals on May 7 at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Notably, the 29-year-old was spotted talking with the on-field umpire after he was given out by the third umpire in the clash against DC.

Samson looked magnificent in his knock of 86 runs; however, West Indies star batter Shai Hope caught his catch near the boundary, while many feel that he touched the boundary and wasn't out. However, there was no clear proof that Hope touched the boundary, which propelled the TV umpire to give him out in the game. Following the same, a plethora of cricket fans and pundits have come out in support of Sanju Samson.

According to an official statement issued by the IPL, "Sanju Samson, Captain, Rajasthan Royals has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 07, 2024."

"Samson committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," the statement added.

Speaking about the game, the Rajasthan Royals lost the crucial clash against the Delhi Capitals by 20 runs. Rishabh Pant's side posted 221/8 in the given 20 overs. However, during the chase, Samson was batting well as he hammered 86 runs from 46 balls, featuring eight fours and six sixes to help his side reach near the total. However, his wicket at the crucial time makes them lose the game.
