Delhi Capitals kept their hopes alive with a thread following a 19-run win against LSG at their home ground Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, May 14, 2024. It was also the last league game of Delhi Capitals in their ongoing IPL 2024 campaign. With this win against LSG, DC have now 14 points and have moved to the 5th spot on the points table in the ongoing edition of IPL 2024.

So now, DC’s qualification in the playoff stage of the tournament depends on the results of the other matches, as there are only 5 matches left in the entire league stage of the current season of the tournament before the playoff stage.

Having said that, here we’ll have a look at the 3 possible scenarios for DC’s playoff qualification after the 19-run win against LSG in Delhi.

Here’s a look at the 3 scenarios for DC to qualify for playoffs after LSG Match:

SRH lost their remaining two matches by big margins

One of the matches in the recent coming days which will have a direct impact on DC’s playoff qualification is set to be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans, the 66th match of the tournament at RGI stadium in Hyderabad. SRH are just a spot above DC in the points table.

For DC’s qualification, they need SRH to lose both of their remaining two matches against GT and PBKS, respectively. If SRH lose their two remaining games by big margins, it might help DC to make it to the playoff stage as SRH’s net run rate will also be affected by the big-margin defeats.

CSK defeats RCB by a big margin

One of the highly anticipated matches in the tournament, which will also be a virtual eliminator is set to be played between two big teams, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the defending champions Chennai Super Kings. The match will be played on May 18 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The DC management and the players will also be watching this RCB vs CSK clash as it will also have a direct impact on their qualification. If the holders CSK manage to beat the hosts RCB by a big margin, it will take the net run rate of RCB down and it will surely help DC’s playoff qualification, alongside ‘if SRH loses their remaining two games’.

LSG should also lose their last match and even if they win, the margin should not be bigger

However, LSG have now slipped to the 7th spot, but they have still 12 points and a last league match left with Mumbai Indians. So, DC also need to LSG lose their last match or even if LSG win the match, the margin should not be so big that it can impact DC's net run rate.

In that case, the only option left for DC after the completion of their league matches is to just hope and pray for the results of the other remaining matches.
