India's newly appointed skipper in the shortest format, Suryakumar Yadav's explosive batting in the 1st T20I against Sri Lanka was something to be adored about. He played quite confidently, which helped him win the Player of the Match award. He scored 58 runs off 26 balls, which was quick, and with that knock, India's score went up to 213 runs. This POTM award helped SKY make a world record, surpassing the run-machine Virat Kohli

In 125 matches, Kohli has won 16 POTM awards, while SKY won 16 awards in just 69 matches. His love for T20 cricket is pretty evident as he enjoys batting around in the shortest format. Now that Kohli has retired from T20Is, SKY is likely to rule the format and win many more awards in the upcoming time.

Most POTM awards in T20Is:

Suryakumar Yadav (India) - 16 (in 69 matches)

Virat Kohli (India) - 16 (in 125 matches)

Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe) - 15 (in 91 matches)

Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan) - 14 (in 129 matches)

Rohit Sharma (India) - 14 (in 159 matches)

They were playing a good brand of cricket from ball one: Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav, India's T20I captain, praised the Sri Lankan team for their intent throughout the game. At the post-match presentation, he spoke about how they showed good spirit from the first ball and were on the verge of winning the game. It was the bowlers who changed the game's course after the 15th over which was beneficial for India.

"They were playing a good brand of cricket from ball one. They were keeping the tempo, credit goes to them. We know how the wicket plays in the night. We were fortunate that there was no dew. The way we played in the World Cup, that reminded us that the game was still too far. Whatever works for the team, we'll take the call," said Suryakumar Yadav at the post-match presentation.
