Indian coach Gautam Gambhir is the man under the lens from experts, fans, and media alike. Ever since news of his reported outburst of the team have emerged, Gambhir has spoke to the media and addressed it head on. Ahead of the crucial SCG Test, India’s coach called the situation ‘good position to be in.’

Star Sports uploaded a short clip from the presser where Gambhir said, “Agar kisi ne 40-45 din pehle bola hota hum iss situation main honge ya hum yahan par, Sydney main aakar draw kar sakte hai series ko, so it’s a good position to be in” (If someone had told us 40-45 days ago that we would be 2-1 down in the series and we have a chance to draw level in Sydney, then it’s a good position to be in)

It is imperative for India to win the Test match and keep their World Test Championships finals hopes alive. If India wins the game the series will end 2-2 and then Sri Lanka has to beat Australia to ensure India take on South Africa in the finals.

Gautam Gambhir backs underfire batters and bowlers

During the course of his chat with the media, Gambhir went onto say, “I don’t think kuch bhi under control nahi hai” (I don’t think anything is out of our control). Questions have been asked about India’s batting which has failed to do well so far in this series. Even the bowling with the exception of Jasprit Bumrah has failed to deliver the goods.

India’s coach addressing these concerns said, “Aise tours pe aate hai aisa nahi hai ki batting ne acha nahi kia ya bowling ne acha nahi kia. Agar batting ya bowling ne acha nahi kia hota toh hum 2-1 nahi hote, ek Test match nahi jeete hote ya 2-1 down nahi hote.” (When we come on such tours it isn’t a question of whether we have done poor batting or bowling. If that was the case we wouldn’t have won a game or been in the series with just 2-1 down)

The 43-year-old also added, “Hum worse situation main ho sakte the. As I said I don’t think itna kuch worrisome hai”. (We could have been in a worse situation. As I said I don’t the situation is that worrisome). With just a few hours left to go before the game begins, Gambhir will hope his team comes out firing and wins the match and levels the series.
