The Indian cricket team is going through a rough patch due to home series defeat against New Zealand and consecutive defeats against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. India had a home record of 12 years and haven't lost a BGT series in ten years. In the reign of being a head coach Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma, the home series record vanished.

However, the BGT can still be saved. The main issue with the ongoing series is the limitied contributions from the middle order batters in the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant. They are the backbone of the team and carry the reputation of match winners in the past.

However, this series has been nothing short of struggle for all the players except for Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Kumar Reddy and KL Rahul. These are the only players who are consistent with their performance. As the controversies related to wrong squad selection has been going around, a report from the Indian Express suggest that Gautam Gambhir was all in favour of bringing Pujara into the team. However, the selectors opposed the decision and wanted to go with the youngsters.

According to another report by the Indian Express, Gambhir is done with others taking decisions for the team. He'll now take the entire control of the team and anyone who opposes it will be out. The Indian team still has one more game left and hence, the hopes for WTC 2025 finals are alive.

Former Pakistan player slams Gautam Gambhir as head coach of India

Basit ali, Pakistan's former player, has bashed Gautam Gambhir for not being able to help the team in whatever they want assistance. Ali, while speaking on his YouTube channel said that Gambhir doesn't qualify as a coach because he doesn't know how to help the players.

"'I don’t know who is the batting coach who can't advise on how to survive and how to play a particular bowler," said Basit Ali.
