The incident happened when Latham scored a streaky boundary off Jadeja’s bowling. Virat Kohli got a clear view of Tom Latham running on the dangerous part of the pitch. The former Indian skipper was seen fuming as he made the point to the umpires. Sarfaraz Khan who was fielding with his helmet seemingly made his way to support Kohli’s claims.

Earlier in the day, Mitchell Santner bowled a dream spell to bowl out India for 156. The left-arm spinner picked career-best figures of 7/53 with Glenn Phillips taking two and Tim Southee dismissing one batter. The best batter for India was Ravindra Jadeja with 38 runs. If India loses this test their hopes of making the WTC finals will take a huge hit as well as their proud home record will also be halted.

Washington Sundar helps India fight back against New Zealand

Armed with a lead of 103 runs, the Kiwis batted with positive intent to put India under pressure. Devon Conway scored 17 runs before he was trapped LBW to give Washington Sundar his first wicket in the second innings. Will Young scored 23 off 28 balls before he was out LBW to R. Ashwin in the 18th over of the innings.

Rachin Ravindra who had scored a fifty in the first innings was beaten for pace as he went for a cut and was bowled. The left-handed batter was out for 9 with the Kiwis placed at 89/3. Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham then added 34 runs for the 4th wicket as runs came freely.

Washington Sundar got his third wicket of the innings and tenth of the game when he dismissed Daryl Mitchell. The Kiwi all-rounder gave Sundar the charge and mistimed the shot only for Yashasvi Jaiswal to settle under the ball and take a neat catch. The veteran star was back in the hut after scoring 18 from 23 balls with two boundaries.

The day belonged to Tom Latham who not only led the side well but also batted brilliantly. The left-handed batter faced 133 balls to score 86 runs with the help of ten hits to the fence. Latham’s innings finally ended when he went for a sweep shot and he was adjudged out LBW. At the time of writing, New Zealand were 197/5 from 50 overs with an overall lead of 300.
