'If you can’t win a game...' - Former India legend bashes RR batters after their defeat against SRH in IPL 2024 Qualifier 2

In the Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Rajasthan Royals (RR) lost the match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 36 runs. What could have been an epic battle turned into a one-sided game as RR batters failed to perform in an important match. Cricketer turned commentator Sunil Gavaskar bashed the RR skipper Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag for throwing away their wickets during such an important clash. 

"What is the use of scoring 500 runs? They got out playing fancy shots. If you can’t win a game for your franchise, it doesn’t count. Samson played a reckless stroke. This is the problem with him and that’s why he hasn’t been able to cement his place in the Indian team. He doesn’t have a proper shot selection. I hope he rectifies it and performs well for the Indian team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024," said Gavaskar on Star Sports. 

After playing well in almost all the matches, Samson and Parag gave away their wickets easily which didn't sit well with the cricket experts. While Samson amassed 10 runs off 11 balls, Parag managed 6 runs off 10 deliveries before heading back to the pavilion. 

'We were found short of options' - Sanju Samson after losing match against SRH

Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson wasn't happy with the way the batters performed in the match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, he did accept that the batters put in less effort and the options were really fewer, hence, they failed to chase a target of 176 runs. 

"I am really proud of the way we bowled in the first innings. We were found short of options in the middle overs against their spin, that's where we lost the game. It's very hard to guess actually when we are expecting some dew or when we are not," said Sanju Samson at the post-match presentation.
