The veteran batter had a huge smile on his face as he replied, “I was very confident. If I was there we would have gone for the hattrick (of wins in Australia). So I wont deny that, Indian team whenever we play Australia, it always a competitive series where we are playing at home or in Australia. And the track record says that we have won more number of times, against Australia and then they won the BGT series.”

Pujara went onto add, “Even this time, although I wasn’t there, we started really well, the first Test match was really good. Probably little unfortunate that things didn’t go to plan after that”. Veteran batter aims for national team comeback

Cheteshwar Pujara hasn’t given up on his dreams of playing for the national side once again. The 37-year-old during the course of his chat with Revsportz’ Boria Majumdar in the Tata Steel’s Trailblazers Conclave said that he is eyeing the England tour where India play five Test matches. Pujara has good knowledge of the conditions having played for Sussex in the previous few seasons.

Boria Majumdar spoke about the issues India faced in the number spot during the recent tour of Australia. The veteran batter was asked if he was ready for a potential spot in the side in the upcoming England tour. Pujara replied “Of course, as a cricketer one wants to play for the Indian cricket team. I am doing whatever I can do to get that success. If the team needs me I will be ready, am training well, I have been playing domestic and county cricket, in this last couple of years."

“I have been scoring heavily in domestic matches and if given a chance I will be more than ready to grab it with both hands and Test cricket is something which I have loved playing since my childhood, and after playing 100 Test matches you always feel and miss being part of the Indian team. Whenever the team doesn’t do well, it always hurts you, even though you aren’t part of the team and you watch it on TV,” further added Pujara during his chat with Boria Majumdar.
