ICC announces 'Player of the Month award nominees for May 2024

In a recent piece of news, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the nominees for the ‘Player of the Month award for May 2024. The list includes the players from West Indies, Pakistan and Ireland. The nominations are based on the performance of these players in May.

Speaking of the players nominated for the ‘Player of the Month award, the list starts with the name of the Caribbean spinner Gudakesh Motie who started his month with an amazing performance against South Africa in the first match of the three-match T20I series.

He registered the numbers of 3 wickets at the cost of 22 runs in the first T20I helping WI to win against SA by 16 runs. Later, Motie ended up with eight wickets in the series, having an outstanding bowling average of just 8.5 runs per wicket.

The other name in the list is none other than Pakistan’s star pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi who claimed 10 wickets with a bowling average of 14.5 last month. He played a pivotal role for his side with the new ball in the T20I series against Ireland and England. He also claimed three-wicket-hauls in three consecutive matches, including two against the Irish side followed by one against the Englishmen.

Lorcan Tucker’s impressive outings with the bat in May take him to the list

The third name in the list is a star associate batter, Lorcan Tucker of Ireland; the wicketkeeper-batter scored crucial 51 runs against the visiting Pakistan in the second T20I of the three-match series. Besides, he also managed to score 4 consecutive 40+ scores individually in 4 innings.

One of his brilliant knocks was 73 runs off just 41 balls, with 13 fours and a six in the third and last T20I of the three-match series against Pakistan. He ended up with 227 runs in six innings in May, having a very good average of 37.83.
