In a recent piece of news, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the winners of the ‘Player of the Month award both in men’s and women’s categories for April 2024. Star UAE batter and skipper Muhammad Waseem won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for his outstanding performances with the bat throughout the entire last month.

On the other hand, star West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for her excellent run of form with the bat, surpassing SA skipper Laura Wolvaardt and Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu in the contention for the award.

Muhammad Waseem also edged out star Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi and Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus in the men’s category for the ‘Player of the Month' award.

“It is a great honour to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award. I am thrilled to join a distinguished list of award winners from around the world,” Wasim was quoted as saying by ICC after he won the award.

“The award is a big motivation for players especially those from emerging cricket teams like the UAE. Last month, our goal in the ACC Premier Cup in Oman was to qualify for next year's Asia Cup and I am proud of my team and their performance in the tournament,” he added.
