Glenn Maxwell and Virat Kohli (Source: X)
After AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli is extremely close to Glenn Maxwell from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) squad. However, that wasn't the case before Maxwell joined RCB. Australia and India had some neck-to-neck competitions in the past and hence, Kohli and Maxwell never really got a chance to strengthen their friendship. On the field, they were rivals, and off the field, the rivalry continued. While talking on The LiSTNR's podcast, Maxwell revealed that Kohli had blocked him after the India vs Australia match in 2017.
Maxwell said, "When I turned up for the pre-IPL training camp, we obviously got chatting and spent a fair bit of time training together as you do. So I go to his social media, follow him. Didn't even think about it before that. Never really crossed my mind. I was like 'I can’t find him'. Then I went and asked him 'Have you blocked me on Instagram?' And he was like, 'Yeah probably. It was when you mocked me during that Test match. I think I got the sh*** and decided to block you.'"
This incident took place in Ranchi in 2017 when Australia came to India to play a Test series. Maxwell mocked Kohli, who had injured his shoulders during the game, and then the batter blocked him on social media.
Virat Kohli to become captain of RCB in IPL 2025: Reports
As the deadline for the retention list is tomorrow, October 31, rumours have it that RCB might release Faf du Plessis from the squad ahead of the IPL 2025. Moreover, talks have been going around about Virat Kohli becoming the captain of the RCB side for the upcoming season. As per reports, the former captain of RCB is set to take control over the throne once again.
However, there is no official confirmation behind this news, and it might just be rumours since Kohli will not take back the captaincy. Hence, RCB management will have to look for a different player who can take on the team's charge if they are planning to let go of Faf du Plessis.
