Iyer has been the subject of much criticism and controversy lately and was also excluded from the BCCI central contract. This is the main reason the century meant a lot to him. While talking at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, he mentioned how important this century was for him.

"Yeah, feels special. Coming back after a very long time, obviously, I was feeling a bit down with my injuries, but now getting a century after a very long time, it’s a great feeling overall. You win three championships (Ranji Trophy, IPL and Irani Cup) in a year and what else can you ask for? All I see is the positive things over here and that is winning the trophy and that’s what I want," said Shreyas Iyer.

Along with him, opener Ayush Mhatre also scored 176 runs in 232 balls, including 22 boundaries and four sixes. Thanks to these players, Mumbai scored 441 runs in the first innings. Maharastra's batting collapsed in just 126 runs, which was embarrassing.

I am absolutely keen for a comeback: Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer also spoke about his eyes on the comeback of the Indian team after a lot of controversies. Iyer's performance was like sending a reminder to the selectors that he is knocking on the door for the upcoming series. He is a talented player and has the potential to make a comeback in the team.

"That’s why I have been playing. I mean, or else I would have given a reason and sat out. I am absolutely keen for a comeback, but yeah, as we say, control the controllables and as always to keep performing and keep participating as much as possible and also see to it that my body is in the best shape," said Shreyas Iyer.
