One of the most popular and fan-favourite franchises in the Indian Premier League, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) recently announced their new captain for the upcoming IPL 2025. The management appointed the star batter Rajat Patidar as the captain of the team for the upcoming 18th edition of the tournament.
However, the news came as a bit of a shocking one for RCB fans, experts of the game and former cricketers as well as they were expecting the batting stalwart Virat Kohli to be RCB’s skipper for IPL 2025. A lot of former cricketers also came up with their opinions on the management’s decision to appoint Rajat Patidar as the skipper of the side in IPL 2025.
In the same line of events, former India batter Mohammad Kaif came up with a big statement while expressing about the ‘RCB captaincy’ debate.
“If Patidar has become captain, Virat Kohli is behind it” – Mohammad Kaif
Kaif also opined on Virat Kohli’s importance for RCB as a batter in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. The former cricketer feels that the batting stalwart will have a major role in RCB’s decision-making in the upcoming IPL edition.
“I was a little surprised. I thought Virat Kohli would lead RCB, given they did not retain Faf du Plessis. I thought Kohli was effectively running RCB. Even if he is not the captain of the side, it is his job to tell the management to buy certain players and back them. So, if Patidar has become captain, Virat Kohli is behind it,” said Mohammad Kaif in a video on his YouTube channel.
“That franchise has not won a single trophy in 18 years, but Kohli is still with them. That's how much RCB respect him; that's how much RCB value Virat's brand,” he added later.
Speaking of Virat Kohli’s current cricketing duties, he will be in action for Team India in the highly anticipated upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
