Team India found themselves in the hot waters after facing a drastic top-order collapse against Australia on the third day of the third Test in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. After Australia finished their first innings with a big total of 445 runs in the first innings, their bowlers completely troubled the visitors.
At the time of rain-inflicted ‘day-end’ on the third day, India had lost their top four wickets at the score of just 51 runs. Apart from opener KL Rahul, all top and middle-order batters, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant failed to reach even the double-digit mark as an individual score.
In the same line of events, former Indian cricketer and now commentator, Sanjay Manjrekar came up with some ‘hard and fast-lined’ and critical remarks for the Indian batting coach.
Why major technical issues have remained unresolved – Sanjay Manjrekar
Manjrekar also questioned the role and approach of the Indian batting coach in the current Test series against Australia. Notably, the result of the ongoing BGT 2024-25 is going to play a decisive role in directing India’s fate for reaching the World Test Championship 2025 final.
“I guess the time has come to scrutinise the role of a batting coach in the Indian team. Why major technical issues have remained unresolved for so long with certain Indian batters,” wrote Manjrekar in his X post, alongside making a special mention of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Notably, India’s batting attack has failed to live up to the expectations on the current Australia tour. Except for the second-inning brilliance in the first Test at Perth, the visitors have been seen struggling a lot against the Australian pacers.
Meanwhile, the performances of the veteran batter Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma are also under the scanner; the duo is enduring a miserable run of form since India’s embarrassing 0-3 loss against New Zealand in a home Test series. Both the veteran batters have failed to prove their worth in the current series against Australia except for Kohli’s century in the second innings of the first Test in Perth.
