The 1st Test match between India and New Zealand is under the threat of rain as the toss is delayed on the first day. While the crowd is present and anticipating the start of the match, the delay is frustrating. Moreover, the excessive water present on the covers is another concern for the umpires and the players. However, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru's ground staff, isn't concerned about any of the above-mentioned things because the SubAir system is quite strong.

Even if there is water on the covers, there is no need to worry about any amount of water on the Chinnaswamy outfield because the SubAir system can remove around 10000 litres per minute. This is also helpful in stopping countless umpire inspections. The only thing needed is for the rain to stop so the match can start in about 60 minutes.

The SubAir system, whose operations are entirely digital, has allowed the KSCA to maintain the ground. Various techniques are employed to optimize resource consumption in response to fluctuating weather conditions. This SubAir system was implemented after the India vs South Africa Test match in 2015. While the Test match was expected to last for five days, due to rain, it got abandoned just after one day. After that, the association installed a best-in-class drainage facility at the historic venue.

India's qualification chances in World Test Championship (WTC) 2025

India is currently in the first position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 points table, which is a positive sign. Now, they need to win three out of eight games to qualify for the WTC Finals, scheduled in June 2025. If India whitewashes the series against New Zealand and draws a game in Australia, they will straightaway qualify for the finals.

If they fail to win any game against New Zealand, the struggle will begin in Australia. Moreover, the Aussies are in the second position of the table, and if they beat India, their chances of jumping to the top will increase. Hence, both series will be extremely important for the Men in Blue to win and maintain their streaks of playing in the WTC Finals.
