How can Delhi Capitals qualify for playoffs after match vs SRH is rained out?

The IPL 2025 match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ended in a damp squib. DC managed to score 133 on the board after being put into bat first thanks to 41 each by Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma. Just as the first innings ended there was a massive downpour which left the entire ground under the covers. 

Rains did come to an halt but the ground had taken too much beating for the match to restart. In the end, the game was abandoned and both sides were given a point each. this result meant that Sunrisers Hyderabad were knocked out of IPL 2025. SRH became the third side to be shown the exit door after Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. 

For Delhi Capitals, this result will be a happy outcome as at one stage it looked like they were down and out. Delhi had lost half their side for 29 runs and it seemed that SRH will bundle out the visitors early. Now DC have 13 points from 11 games and will be an interesting final stretch of IPL with playoff spots up for grabs. 

Delhi Capitals playoff scenarios

Axar Patel and his Delhi Capitals side  have three games left after their abandoned game against SRH.DC will take on Punjab Kings next on Thursday in Dharamshala. This will be followed by a final home game against Gujarat Titans on Sunday night. The final game of the season for Delhi will away to Mumbai on 15th May. 

Win in each game will take Delhi to 19 points from 14 games. This should be enough to qualify as one of the top two sides in the tournament. If Delhi happens to wins two out of the next two games left, they will have 17 points from 14 games. In that case, DC will hope that Mumbai or Gujarat just wins one of their remaining few games of the season. if that happens then MI and GT will just have 16 points from their 14 matches.  

If DC wins just one game from the three matches left, then they will move to 15 points from 14 games. In such a scenario, DC will hope that MI or GT don’t win any of their last few matches of the season. Delhi will also hope that KKR loses two out of their three games left in the season and ends up with 13 points. Finally, if DC loses all their games then their season will be over as they will finish outside the top four.
