Rishabh Pant has always been an unorthodox player since the start of his career. However, his batting approach hasn't always been effective for scoring runs. This time, head coach Gautam Gambhir wasn't very happy with the player's performance in the fourth Test match, as he was dismissed for playing a rash shot. As per reports, Gambhir lashed out at the left-handed batter and was interrupted by Virat Kohli.
Speaking about Pant and his batting, former Australia batter Kerry O'Keeffe said that Pant doesn't deserve this treatment as this is his natural game. Asking to change it doesn't seem fair at all. Also, O'Keeffe raised a question about why Pant hasn't gotten any help from management regarding his performance in the ongoing Test series.
"Rishabh Pant was scolded by the headmaster, which is not right as this is how he plays. It is hard to understand his approach today as the aggression, which has helped him score runs, is missing," said Kerry O’Keeffe on Star Sports.
In the fifth Test match, Pant was the highest run scorer with 40 runs in 98 balls. He did his best to avoid all sorts of unorthodox shots but was eventually dismissed by Scott Boland.
I would not like Pant playing a defensive stroke: Michael Vaughan
Michael Vaughan, England's former legendary batter, supported Rishabh Pant and asked him not to change his approach. Pant, who was once praised for his weird shots, is now criticised for not timing the ball well. It seems like the management hasn't helped him much to improve his batting approach. Hence, he hasn't been consistent in the series and has failed to convert his scores.
If I were Team India’s captain, I would not like Pant playing a defensive stroke. I think he should ignore what is being said on social media and continue the way he likes to bat
