As the 2nd Test match against New Zealand came to an end with India losing the game by 113 runs, Mitchell Santner was the Player of the Match for his 13 wickets in two innings. He was brilliant with the ball and also scored 33 runs in the first innings.
While Santner got rid of most of the star Indian batters, India's former cricketer Anil Kumble analyzed the way Rohit Sharma played against Santner and how the bowler was able to dismiss him.
"He played the reverse sweep and he also stepped out. He used all the options, unfortunately for him it was seen by Santner early and then he bowled it slightly shorter and then it bounced to Rohit Sharma. I thought the intent was right but of course, it was well bowled by Santner. We should also give credit to Santner because he saw him coming The one advantage that Santner has is he releases the ball really late and that probably helped him in seeing Rohit come at him and drop length a little bit," said Anil Kumble.
Indian players have a huge issue while playing against spinners, and this became visible in the 2nd Test match. None of the batters came forward and played a wonderful knock to help India reach a victory position. Losing the Test match at home on the third day is something that isn't expected from the Indian team. However, after 12 years, India lost a home series, which means a huge streak broke with this loss.
We failed to capitalize on certain moments: Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma is known to acknowledge the challenges and the mistakes made by the players in the matches. After losing the 2nd Test match, Rohit spoke about the moments when the team didn't perform but also mentioned that it was a collective failure. However, as per the Indian captain, they'll try to rectify their mistakes in the upcoming game.
"Disappointing. It's not what we expected. Got to give credit to NZ - they played better than us. We failed to capitalise on certain moments. We failed to respond to those challenges," said Rohit Sharma.
