India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, was known for his bold statements on players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Before the T20 World Cup 2024, Gambhir was heard saying that Kohli wasn't in good form and he shouldn't be a part of the team. However, now after becoming the head coach, he told Kohli and Rohit will be a part of the ODI World Cup 2027. Former India player, Kris Srikkanth spoke about the diplomacy shown by Gambhir on this.

"Gautam Gambhir has taken a U-turn. Before the T20 World Cup 2024, he was saying if Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma do not perform, they will not sit in my team. Then he took a U-turn now, saying there is no player like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. After becoming head coach, he said that both have a lot of cricket left and hopefully, they will be fit for the 2027 World Cup," said Kris Srikkanth, as quoted by Sportstar.

Gambhir's appointment would change many things, and it began with Hardik Pandya losing his chance to be the captain of the Indian team. Now that Suryakumar Yadav is the captain of the T20I squad against Sri Lanka, his performance will be monitored since the management plans to have him up to the next T20 World Cup in 2026.

No, I am not surprised: Ashish Nehra

India's former pacer, Ashish Nehra, took a dig at the head coach of India, Gautam Gambhir, regarding his decisions after taking responsibility. While Nehra is the coach of Gujarat Titans, he was well aware of how great Hardik Pandya is, and Nehra didn't appreciate removing him from captaincy. Hence, he said that he wasn't surprised by the decision since it came from Gambhir.

"No, I am not surprised. When it comes to cricket, these things keep happening. Yes, Hardik Pandya was vice-captain in the World Cup, but at the same time, there is a new coach who has come in. Every coach and every captain have different thoughts. At this time, his (Gambhir's) ideas are toward that direction," said Nehra as quoted by Sports Tak.
