The incident in question took place in the final ball of the 13th over of the innings. Adam Zampa’s ball invited the batter to go for a big shot and Badoni took the bait. The timing wasn’t upto the mark as Harshal Patel came running in and slid on his knees to take the catch. It was a crucial wicket for SRH with LSG still needing 37 runs to win the game with six wickets in hand and seven overs left to play.

In the end, Abdul Samad and David Miller saw the team through to an easy win with five wickets and 23 balls left to play. Apart from Pooran, LSG also had Mitchell Marsh to thank as the veteran Aussie batter scored 52 runs from just 29 balls. Hyderabad next play Delhi Capitals away from home in Visakhapatnam. LSG will play their first home game of the season against Punjab on 1st April.

Shardul Thakur named man of the match

LSG skipper Rishabh Pant was happy after the win on Thursday and while speaking at the end of the game said, “Definitely a big relief, but as a team we talk about the process. We don't want to get too high after winning and too low after losing, taking it one match at a time. It was a big concern, but as a team we don't want to focus on uncontrollable.”

The 27-year-old also added, “Good to see Avesh come back, Shardul bowling well. [On Pooran's batting position] I think we just want to give freedom to him. I like that freedom too. But we've just told him to go express himself and he's batting phenomenally for us. Everyone is preparing really well, training well."

The 33-year-old Shardul Thakur was named player of the game for his four wicket haul. Thakur was asked how he felt not getting picked during the Auctions and his eventual return as a replacement player. The 33-year-old said, “I had made my plans. I had signed for County Cricket if I wasn't picked for IPL. While playing Ranji, I got a call from Zaheer Khan that we are looking at you as a potential replacement so don't switch yourself off.  If we get you we'll need you to start. That was the day I got back in the IPL zone.”
