Forgotten Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar turns 35 on Wednesday. The right-arm seamer hasn’t played for India since 2022. Despite his stellar show in the IPL as well as domestic cricket, Bhuvi as he is fondly called hasn’t got a recall to the side.

His very first international assignment was against Pakistan in the T20I game in Bengaluru. Kumar left fans and experts stunned with his swing bowling as he got 3/9 from his four overs. The first wicket for the young seam sensation from UP was that of Nasir Jamshed for two runs. This was followed by the scalp of Ahmed Shahzad caught by skipper Dhoni for five runs. His best ball of the match was to Umar Akmal who lost his middle stump thanks to a vicious out-swinger. This spell though went to waste as Pakistan won the match.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar first shot to fame when he dismissed Sachin Tendulkar for a duck in the Ranji Trophy. This is the only time in his Indian domestic cricket history that Tendulkar was out for a duck. Soon the young pacer became the talk of the town along with his Uttar Pradesh teammates Praveen Kumar and Sudeep Tyagi who had played international cricket.

The young seamer made his first-class debut against Bengal at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium. In the first innings, Kumar picked up three wickets and scored 22 not out with the bat. In the second essay, the 17-year-old didn’t pick any wickets as his side won the game. Kumar’s List A debut came a few months later against Rajasthan in a losing effort where he picked just one wicket. Bhuvneshwar Kumar made his T20 debut for RCB against Delhi during the Champions League where he went wicketless.

Can Bhuvneshwar Kumar make his comeback?

MS Dhoni handed the young sensation his ODI cap in Chennai and he made an immediate impact against Pakistan. 22-year-old dismissed Mohammad Hafeez and Younis Khan to make an instant impression. Till now, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has played 21 Test matches with 63 wickets and a best of 6/82 that came in Lords during the 2014 tour.
