The opening game of the Indian Cricket team in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 didn't go as expected, as they lost the game against New Zealand by a huge margin of 58 runs. The Indian batting attack collapsed like a pack of cards, which was embarrassing and disappointing at the same time. After the match, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur opened up about the loss and admitted that they didn't play their best game against the Kiwis.

"We didn't play our best cricket today. Going forward we have to think what areas we have to improve. Every game now is important and we have to play our best cricket. We created chances, it's not like that we didn't create. They played better cricket than us, no doubt about that. This is such a high stage where you can't make these mistakes," said Harmanpreet Kaur.

On the other hand, Sophie Devine-led team outplayed the Indian attack in the batting and bowling department with a strong performance. It was Rosemary Mair who dismantled India's entire batting attack with her outstanding performance and claimed a four-wicket haul. The Kiwis bowled out India for 102 in 19 overs and got a dream start in the tournament.

I'm just incredibly proud of this group: Sophie Devine

Sophie Devine's New Zealand team were absolutely stunning in their encounter against India. Starting with the batters and the bowlers, all the players came together and dominated the Indian team. The openers Suzie Bates (27) and Georgia Plimmer (34) gave a brilliant start to the innings, which skipper Devine carried forward after their dismissal.

Devine scored 57 runs off 36 balls, including seven boundaries. She instilled confidence within the team with her terrific shots and power. At the post-match presentation, she spoke about how proud she was of her team and that they deserved this win for the hard work they have put together.

"I'm just incredibly proud of this group. To put together such a comprehensive performance is something I'm proud of. We've been targeting this game for a long time now. We take inspiration from the Black Caps as well," said Sophie Devine.
