Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wicketkeeper Sreevats Goswami put out an angry tweet slamming the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Goswami slammed the selectors for not including Karun Nair in the ODI squad. The 33-year-old has scored 752 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with four centuries and has been dismissed just once.

Sreevats Goswami wrote, “Karun Nair not getting picked is like going against your own rule of making domestic cricket mandatory. Gutted for him”. There were expectations that Karun Nair would be recalled to the side after his batting blitz. Nair is currently leading Vidarbha in the finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Karnataka.

The former Under-19 wicketkeeper also wrote “Why not make an exception for someone who has scored 752 runs in 7 games, I mean use his form! Take a extra player and go. India did take 4 reserves including Gill for the recent T20 wc in the Caribbean”

“2015 WC too Dhawal Kulkarni was a part of WC as a travelling reserve. Jaiswal as extra opener? need be KL can open if either gill or Rohit gets injured, In conditions like Dubai you need someone to build innings in the middle. Just add him as the 16th (player)” Sreevats Goswami further added.

Ajit Agarkar speaks about Karun Nair’s non-inclusion

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar during his media interaction was asked about Karun Nair being ignored from the squad. The former India pacer replied “Yeah, it was tough. Those are really special performances. Someone who averages 700-plus. We did have a chat”

Agarkar also added “At the moment, finding a spot in the squad in this team is really difficult. Look at the guys who have been picked. All average well in excess of mid-40s. Unfortunately, you can't fit everyone in a squad of 15. But those performances certainly make you take notice. If there is a loss of form or injuries, there's certainly going to be a conversation around him,"

Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar had lauded Nair for his recent performances with the bat. Tendulkar’s views were echoed by former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad who had hoped that Karun Nair will be included in the ODI set-up after seeing his amazing batting form.
