For the second game in a row, the Indian team was done in by spin as Jefferey Vandersay weaved his magic. The veteran Sri Lankan batter picked 6/26 from his 7 overs to leave India in a huge spot of bother at 147 for the loss of 6 wickets. The right-arm spinner had picked all six wickets to bring the home team back into the game.

Rohit Sharma had deflated the Sri Lankan bowling to score a brisk 64 runs. The knock came off 44 balls with five hits to the fence and four hits over the fence. This was the second successive fifty for Rohit Sharma after his 58 runs in the first match.

Indian batting falls like nine pins once more

Indian opening pair Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were in their best form as the two added 97 runs inside 14 overs. In a quest to put the pressure on the Sri Lankan bowlers, Rohit Sharma tried to play an ambitious reverse sweep.

Rohit Sharma couldn’t time the ball well as he was caught well by Pathum Nissanka. The first over after the mandatory first drinks break saw Shubman Gill being pouched in the slips by Kamindu Mendis for a 44-ball 35.

In the same over Shivam Dube who was promoted to number 4 in the batting order was out LBW. Jefferey Vandersay got the ball to turn in sharply as the batter was beaten and was out for a duck. The biggest scalp came in the form of Virat Kohli who was again beaten for pace and caught in front of the stumps for 14.

This was followed by the wicket of Shreyas Iyer who is regarded as one of the best batters of spin. The 29-year-old was initially given not out but the Sri Lankans decided to use the review it was deemed that Iyer was out. KL Rahul went for a huge shot only to see the ball get the inside edge and he was outbowled for a duck to give Vandersay his 6th wicket.
