In a rare occurrence of father and son playing cricket together, Rahul Dravid and his son Anvay Dravid played in the same team. The 52-year-old joined his youngest son, aged 16, to play a third division match. The former India captain and World Cup-winning coach was part of the Vijaya Cricket Club. The father-and-son duo were taking part in a tournament called the Sri Nassur Memorial Shield.

Young Lions, who were the opponents, won the toss and asked Vijaya to bat first. Anvay Dravid impressed with the bat and scored 58 runs off 60 balls. Rahul Dravid also shared the pitch briefly with his son and went on to score 10 runs from mere eight balls without a boundary. Vijaya Cricket Club posted 345 on the board thanks to a century by Swapnil Yelave, who scored 107 off just 50 balls.

Apart from Anvay, it is to be noted that Rahul Dravid’s eldest son Samit is playing cricket. The 19-year-old, who is an all-rounder, last played in the KSCA’s T20 tournament for Mysuru Warriors before getting injured. Samit, in fact, was picked for the Under-19 series against Australia but couldn’t take part due to his fitness.

Rahul Dravid gearing up for IPL 2025 with Rajasthan Royals

The next big challenge for Indian legend Rahul Dravid is in the Rajasthan Royals dugout in the upcoming IPL 2025 season. Dravid, who played three seasons for the Royals, also coached the side for two years post his retirement. After stepping down as India’s coach, Dravid was appointed as the new coach for the Sanju Samson-led side.

The Royals are currently getting ready for the season in a camp that is being organised in Guwahati. 2008 title winners will kick off their season in Guwahati with their first few matches before heading back to Jaipur. Dravid addressed the media recently, where he spoke about the coming season.

India’s former coach said, “Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural IPL, and then we have come closer a few times. The aim of everyone in the franchise is to win another title. Every time we have come into the tournament and in order to get to that, there are a lot of steps along the way. There is no point thinking about May 25th if we don’t get the process right.”

The 52-year-old added, “As a coach, I don’t score a single run or take a single wicket. As a coach, a lot of my work is to support Sanju Samson and back a lot of the other players to play freely and play with clarity and play the best cricket they can. There is no question of being aggressive for me.”

“We have a great bunch of players, right from the seasoned ones to the new or rather lesser-known players. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Riyan Parag have been in the set-up for a while, and for someone like Riyan, he may be young, but in terms of IPL experience, he has played more than 50 games in the IPL,” Dravid also went on to say to the media.
