An unfortunate event that came to light a few days back was the death of former English cricketer Graham Thorpe at the age of 55. The news came on August 5, while the reasons behind his death were unknown. The officials had conveyed that he had died due to illness. However, recently, in an interview with the Times, his wife Amanda revealed the real reasons behind his death.

As he was dealing with depression, he wasn't doing well mentally and, hence, died by suicide. It was a heartbreaking moment for the family and the English cricket fraternity, who never thought they would lose their best player in this manner. Thorpe was survived by his wife and children, Henry, Amelia, Kitty, and Emma.

"Despite having a wife and two daughters whom he loved and who loved him, he did not get better. He was so unwell in recent times and he really did believe that we would be better off without him and we are devastated that he acted on that and took his own life," said Amanda during an interview.

Ben Stokes pays tribute to Graham Thorpe wearing his jersey

England's red-ball skipper Ben Stokes paid tribute to Graham Thorpe by uploading a picture on social media. He wore a jersey with his name and number behind his back, which was a meaningful picture. It showed the kind of respect the players have for the former batter. Thorpe had played 100 Tests and 82 ODI matches for the England team.

The England Cricket Board also released a statement for the former player who was an excellent batter and had a great personality. Their statement read, "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Graham Thorpe, MBE, has passed away. 'There seem to be no appropriate words to describe the deep shock we feel at Graham's death. The cricket world is in mourning today. We will always remember Graham for his extraordinary contributions to the sport."
