Australia began their final Test assignment in the current WTC cycle on Wednesday. Steve Smith won the toss and chose to bat first during the opening Test match in Galle. Travis Head replaced Sam Konstas as the opener and came out to bat with veteran batter Usman Khawaja.

Fast bowler Asitha Fernando let out a huge roar as the ball nipped back into Head and hit him on the pads. The bowler was convinced that the ball was hitting the stumps but skipper Dhananjaya De Silva decided against taking the review. When the replays were shown, it was seen that the ball was pitching in line and the ball was going to hit the stumps.

Former Australian pacer Damien Fleming took to Twitter and wrote, “Jeez no review from Sri Lanka. Can’t see many balls bouncing over stumps on this pitch." The incident happened in the final ball of the fifth over, with Head batting on 23. The right-handed batter punished the massive gaffer by the home side to reach his fifty off 35 balls.

Josh Inglis makes his Test debut as Sam Konstas misses out

Young Sam Konstas, who had made an amazing debut against India, was considered for selection by the visitors. Josh Inglis made his Test debut for Australia and the 29-year-old is set to bat in the middle order.

Speaking at the toss, Steve Smith said, “We'll have a bat. Unsure at this stage, looks a little tacky this morning; not too sure how it'll play, we'll wait and see. Josh Inglis gets his opportunity; he's been banging the door down in Shield cricket. We've got three spinners, Starc as the pacer and Head will open. We have to adapt accordingly and see what's in front of us.”

Travis Head began the game with three fours in the first over of the match. The left-handed batter made good use of the early life given to him by smashing boundaries at will. Prabath Jayasuriya ended Head’s knock by being caught at the long-on boundary by Dinesh Chandimal for 57 runs. The batter’s knock came off 40 balls with 10 fours and a six.
