Australia's former Test cricketer Michael Slater collapsed in a court on Tuesday after being refused bail. There were more than a dozen charges on his name including some relating to stalking for which he didn't get bail. Slater was helped by the court staff to his feet after he fell on the floor during the proceedings.
As reported by the local media, the 54-year-old was denied bail by a Queensland magistrate for several cases. Moreover, the cricketer-turned-commentator was accused of domestic violence offences as well as common assault and unlawful stalking. He is given a due date of May to appear in front of the court again for further proceedings.
In the last six months, he has also been accused of sending unwanted text messages and making intimidating phone calls. After having a successful cricket career, Slater has also been a commentator in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Michael Slater's career
Playing for Australia for more than a decade, Michael Slater has had a good Test career in terms of numbers. If we talk about Test cricket, he has played around 74 matches and scored 5312 runs at an average of 42.83. He has scored 14 centuries and 21 half-centuries and his high score was 214.
He was not much of an ODI or T20 player, however, he had played 42 ODI matches and scored 987 runs at an average of 24. He was one of the best Test openers for Australia and had played some beautiful innings which helped them win the matches. He was extremely brilliant against New Zealand and England in general.
