After the successful completion of the 62 matches in the ongoing IPL 2024, including a 16-over-a-side match, the 63rd game of the tournament between GT and KKR became the first fixture of the tournament to get abandoned without a ball bowled due to rain at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the tournament.

However, this abandoned game hasn’t had much impact on the position of both teams in the points table. Both teams shared one point each after the game was called off following a long wait of 3.5 hours. However, it has dented the already crumbling journey of Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2024 as they have won only 5 matches out of the 13 games they have played so far, including 7 defeats and this just-concluded abandoned fixture against KKR. They have now been eliminated from the tournament.

KKR to face off RR in their last league match

On the other hand, the table toppers KKR haven’t been affected by the outcome of this match as they had already qualified for the playoff stage of the tournament after an 18-run win against MI in the last match at their home ground in Eden Gardens. After sharing one point with GT in this abandoned fixture, KKR have maintained their top spot, with 19 points, having 9 wins and 3 defeats in the 13 matches they have played so far.

Now, the table toppers Kolkata Knight Riders will take on the number 2 Rajasthan Royals in their last match of the league stage in the ongoing IPL 2024 campaign. It will also be a very crucial match for RR to ensure their qualification in the playoff stage of the tournament, while the KKR will be eyeing ending their league on a higher note with a win in the last league match.

Speaking of GT, they will be playing their last league game in the tournament against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday, May 16; it will be an all-important game for SRH to keep their hopes alive for playoff qualification.

Here’s how fans reacted after the GT vs KKR match got abandoned:
