T20 cricket, especially Indian Premier League (IPL) is known for its quick paced action. To score a century in the twenty-over format has always been a tough task to achieve. It requires spell set of skills. Ever since the start of IPL in 2008, a select set of batters have been able to score centuries in the league.
Former Indian captain Virat Kohli centuries have always been remarkable for the fans to watch. The star batter scored the most centuries in the league, recording the three figure mark on eight occasions. Jos Buttler has hit 7 centuries while former West Indian batting stalwart, Chris Gayle had hit six tons in the league. While scoring a century in a league like IPL is tough, what makes it special is how quick it has been scored.
The Fastest Hundreds in IPL History belongs to Chris Gayle who got to the mark in just 30 balls. The feat came against the now defunct Pune Warriors India where Gayle scored 175 not out from 66 balls. This innings was recorded during the IPL 2013 season at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Chris Gayle’s 175 not out against Pune Warriors India saw 13 fours and 17 sixes being hit. The left-handed batter used the short boundaries at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to good effect. In the top five list only two centuries have come during chasing. The occasions were when David Miller scored 101 runs against RCB at the old Mohali Stadium for Punjab Kings,
The second occasions was during the IPL 2024 season where Will Jacks tore open the Gujarat bowling unit at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Both grounds are known to produce high boundary scoring counts. Mohali had always been known as a boundary scoring haven and a great deck for the batters to score runs upon.
Yusuf Pathan is the only batter whose century resulted in a loss. His century came off 37 balls during the season opening game of IPL 2010 against Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium. Mumbai Indians managed to score 212 on the board and won the game by four runs despite the whirlwind ton by Yusuf Pathan.
Two of the centuries scored in the top five list have come at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The stadium is known to be a graveyard for bowlers and witnessed the first ever ton in the IPL when Brendon McCullum scored 158 in the very first game of the season. In fact, the Chinnaswamy Stadium has seen 9 centuries scored at the venue and is ranked at number 2 in the list. Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai has seen the maximum number of centuries scored (14) recorded at the venue.

AB De Villiers scored 129 not out against Gujarat Lions during the IPL 2016 season. Former Australian star David Warner has also recorded one of the fastest centuries in IPL history with his knock of 126 against KKR in 2017. The left-handed batter got his century off 43 balls which was one of the four tons scored by the batter.
With the amount of batting talents in display, 2025 will be witnessing yet another amazing season of IPL. During the 2024 season, Punjab Kings broke the record for the best chase in the league. This year the likes of Jos Buttler, Suryakumar Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, and Yashasvi Jaiswal in particular will be closely looked at. Sanju Samson is another candidate who has been in thick run-scoring form. Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is another candidate to score a century in the league.
